Be Proud of What Makes You Happy!

This is my Lab 7 for my typography class. My phrase for Lab 7 is my original saying, “Be proud of what makes you happy”. My inspiration behind this is to never be ashamed in sharing what you love doing to others. My idea has the words “proud” and “happy” stand out from the rest. The “proud” word’s base font is called “Cream Cake”, and the base font used for “happy” is called “Muthiara”. The body font used for the other words is “Gabriola”. My main idea to unify this entire piece is to go for a font-style that looks hand-drawn, to have a “calligraphy” feel.
The decor I associate with “proud” is a crown, a symbol of power and pride set neatly on top of the word. The other main ornament in this piece is a calligraphy brush, as it is one of the hobbies I personally enjoy. It has this said brush set to the right side with a giant “swoosh” that encases nearly all the bottom area of the phrase. I did this as I felt it look nice and made sense for added decoration when one does calligraphy. My color choices are dark purple and yellow as it has a nice contrast and a “royalty” feel that suits my idea of you feeling like a king/champ of whatever you love doing.
