Dive Deeper Into What You Love

My piece’s saying is “Dive Deeper into What You Love”. This phrase is one of many I truly believe in and do my best to live by. Overall, I made each word a visual representing my hobbies/interests throughout my life so far that I dove into.
“Dive” has a sketch mannequin diving off a coffee maker. This represents three activities I enjoyed. First, is swimming which is one of my two sports I like. I wasn’t a big “sports-kid” mostly due to my height. My short figure tends to hinder my performances in popular sports like basketball and volleyball. I wasn’t a fan of that, but I enjoyed a time where I swam around in a resort. My mom said if I want, I can take swimming classes to improve my swimming skills. I did, and I further explored my swimming potential. Second is coffee-making, during quarantine I expanded on making my own coffee instead of just mixing instant coffee. I bought my own coffee machine and I truly enjoyed mixing different kinds of flavors. Finally, the sketch mannequin represents my love of drawing. I want to learn how to further improve on my anatomical proportions, so I bought this mini mannequin as a guide for my pieces.
“Deeper” is written at the bottom of a glass of water. I made the decision of putting water instead of coffee for clear visibility of the word. I edited the cup to be bigger and connected to my “Dive” word. I made it look like the mannequin is literally diving into the cup, a visual I am a fan of.
“Into” is sculpted into snow, with the color red spray-painted onto the letters “INT”. The “INT” is representing my love of sculpting and spray-painting. Originally coming from a tropical country, I never sculpted with snow and I started doing that in my spare time here in Canada. Spray-painting became I medium I love to dive deeper into more, so I bought cans and experimented with painting my game consoles with varying results. The “O” in the word is reflected on the soccer ball. This is to represent the other sport I dove deeper onto, Futsal (indoor soccer). I originally just liked kicking a ball around the house as a kid, and I thought I wanted to explore that more by enrolling in a summer soccer camp. My mom allowed it, and I had the time of my life playing soccer and improving my shooting and passing skills.
“What” is formed out of a dish I made, that coincides with my growing love of cooking. Ever since I was younger, I’m a fan of making dishes watching my mom and grandma cook. So now in my adult life, I bought my own pans and utensils to make my own food instead of buying fast food all the time. The “WT” is made of fried rice, the “h” is made of potatoes, and the “a” is made of broccoli with a tomato in the middle. I put the wooden spoon in it for added visuals.
“You” is visualized by the “U” from the Nintendo Wii U’s logo. Gaming has been a huge part of my life. This Wii U is special because it is the first console I have that I paid for. I made the logo out of construction paper and taped it onto my console to recreate the logo. I feel the “U” makes that part of this whole illustration stand out and unique, especially with incorporating the negative space. I also edited the console in a slant phase, for the final wordplay.
Finally, “LOVE” is laid individually in yellow balls bouncing off my Wii U and Wii Remote controllers. Each ball has varying opacity (onion skin) from lightest “L” to full “E” alongside my hand and digital pen on the side. This final part represents my current hobby, 2D animation.

My favourite phrase that I live by, made from my different hobbies. Coffee-making, swimming, snow-sculpting, football (soccer), cooking, gaming, and digital animation.
